According to Evan Imber-Black, Ph.D., who is the director of the Center for Families and Health at New York City's Ackerman Institute, and the author of The Secret Life of Families, says it all depends upon the person you keeping the secret from has a right to know or if it is a privacy issue. She says that if the feeling of shame, is part of keeping the secret, a secret, then usually there is a right to know, and should be told.
